What we are aiming at and what we have to offer "an inspiring adventure to the unexpected world of Zanzibar"
What is our Goal?
In contrast to most projects in Africa we don’t want to show ideas on how to improve Africa: We show Zanzibar the way it is:
We will drive around the island with dalladallas (traditional mean of transport), visit different villages and places; see different ways of building houses, doing handicraft and art.
In the villages the guests see Zanzibarian fashion, Zanzibarian design, Zanzibarian infrastructure and a Zanzibarian way of life. We will go to musicians, artists and fundis (craftsmen) and they will show their art and work in traditional ways which they are still using today.
As our guest you will have the opportunity to try out the traditional ways of working in the places we visit and to deepen them in workshops if they so wish.
As our guest you will experience how different the concept of time can be felt in Zanzibar.
As our guest you will find out that ideas, notions and the handling of problems are different. And you will see how resourceful the Swahili people are with what nature has to offer. Based on these impressions, you are given the opportunity:
- to get creative yourself and to let new influences flow into your own art
- to design and produce something with the methods and working methods of the fundis (craftsmen) visited
- to create fashion inspired by what you’ve seen
- to write
- to build
- to design
- to make music
- to take photos
- and much more.
Individual wishes of our guests have a high priority during their stay in the „Garden of Komba“. All our guests will get the chance to do something with the inspirations collected. And we are sure as our guests you will take these impressions and inspirations home with you, in your head, in your heart, and also in the form of your art.
This is important to us: There is no wrong or right, no better or worse. Things are just different and it is good that things are different. Everything is allowed and everything has its rightful place.
That’s what „Garden of Komba“ stands for.
This is what makes “Garden of Komba” so unique. With “Garden of Komba” we want to create a world of experience and of learning, in which the Swahili culture is the focus.
This gives the guests the opportunity to experience the exotic magic of Africa and in particular of Zanzibar up close.

We offer our guests the unique opportunity to experience a non-conventional Zanzibar in a natural ambience that is not offered anywhere else. A real piece of East Africa tourists almost always rarely get the chance to encounter. Also the focus is not on the lion sneaking through the savannah in slow motion, but on people and their cultural peculiarities and uniqueness: their traditions, religions, natural spaces, their environment, their dreams and experiences. We offer a multicultural safari through the world of the Swahili people of Zanzibar.
We also offer the opportunity to experience ‚time‘ in a new way, as Zanzibar has a different and individual perception of time in a variety of ways: everything goes much, much slower and takes longer

- the work- and life-rhythm of the people is influenced by the strong island climate, by ebb and flow, by day and night, much more so than we know it
